To Bee or Not To Bee at APEC

Environmental center will host an event during which local kids can learn about bees and sample honey.

is looking to create buzz for an event it will host for local children on Aug. 28.

The center, located at 228-06 Northern Blvd. in Douglaston, will teach children between the ages of 4 and 10 years about honey bees. A local bee keeper will teach attendees how to make a bees wax candle, plant "bee friendly" seeds and provide honey samples.

The event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., will also include story time.

The first 15 children to register will receive a copy of a honey bee book. Additional registrants will be given lip balm, a kids honey cookbook and samples of Annie's Honey Bunny Grahams.

All children must be accompanied by an adult. Members will pay $10, while the cost for non-members is $16.
