Reunion to Celebrate the Old Days of Bell Boulevard

Event will begin on July 21 at C.J. Sullivan's.

A July 21 reunion has been scheduled for former patrons, employees and denizens of Bell Boulevard to celebrate the old days of the commercial strip.

Mickey Prendergast, who worked for 27 years at , is putting together a reunion, which will begin at 3 p.m. at , located at 213-10 41st Ave. near the community’s .

She said she expected the event to draw as many as 100 people, some of whom are traveling from California, Florida, Massachusetts, England and Ireland.

“When I used to work at Donovan’s, people used to come in and there was no two-hour wait for a table,” said Prendergast, who no works in a nursing home. “People would hang around and meet everyone else. They’d go from one place to another place and made a lot of friends that way.”

Prendergast said a majority of those who will attend the reunion populated the bars and eateries on the strip during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.

“It’s for people who used to hang around the boulevard to see what it looks like now,” she said. “I think this will be good business for places on the boulevard and a fun-filled day for those who show up. The more, the merrier.”
