Public Memorial Day Observance To Be Held In Bayside Hills

All are invited to pay respect to fallen U.S. soldiers.

The Bayside Hills Civic Association will hold their annual Memorial Day observance on May 26.

Community members can gather at the Bayside Hills mall at the intersection of 53rd Ave. and Bell Blv. at 9:30a.m.

The event program is below:

 

1) Billy Ray Cyrus "Some Gave All"
2) Welcoming address - BHCA President Michael Feiner

3) Boy Scouts of America Pledge (our local Cub Scout Pack 142)
& National Anthem Ceremony performed by local theatre star Rhea Arkin
4) Opening prayer - U.S. Army Chaplain John Mulhern - American Legion Post #103
5) Special guests will address the audience
6) Memorial Day Poem to be read by representatives of Catholic Charities Neighborhood Services (CCNS) Bayside Senior Center
7) Taps - Our Cub Scout Pack again
9)Special Presentation from Mayor Bloomberg (Community Affairs Unit Director Claudia Filomena)
10) More remarks by Michael Feiner thanking everybody for coming and reminders about the next two BHCA events - June 26 general
meeting at the Bayside Colonial Church, and the 9/11 ceremony commemorating the eleventh anniversary of the tragedy, September 11,
2012 Bell Boulevard and Horace Harding Boulevard - 7:00 PM
11) Closing Benediction - The Reverend Monsignor Martin T. Geraghty (pastor of the parish of St. Robert Bellarmine of Bayside).

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
