Photo Gallery: Veterans Day at the Samuel Field Y

Nearly 200 community members gathered on Friday at Little Neck's Samuel Field Y for an afternoon of Veterans Day celebration, reflection and support for the country's troops.

Choral performances of patriotic favorites like "Grand Old Flag" and "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" defined the first half of the program, while the second half was dedicated to the making of care packages to be sent to soldiers overseas.

Each care package contained a handwritten letter from attendees, as well as items like toiletries, snack food and mix CDs compiled by members of the Y's Teen Council. The boxes will be brought to the Staten Island-based organization Operation Homefront, who will ensure that the packages reach their destination in time for the holiday season.
