A weekend guide to the best kid-tastic events in and around Bayside.

Here is another edition of Bayside Patch's Grab & Go Kids Planner, the perfect guide to events and activities for your family.

Check out upcoming events, geared toward kids and families that take place this weekend in Bayside and surrounding areas.

Here is an animal visit, fair, hike (and no I'm not referrencing the MTA here), arts and crafts workshop, and birdwatching outing.

FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK

 

One World, Many Animals

Where/When: . On Friday, at 3:30 p.m.

Why Go: Because the kids love getting that one on one time with live animals! Put it this way, they can interact with the guinea pigs and bunnies, and then leave them there.

Pricing: Free 



Where/When: . On Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Why Go: This fair features plenty of crafts, and decorations, to get you into the spirit of the holiday season.

Pricing: Free to attend.

 

Light Orienteering Hike

Where/When: Alley Pond Park Adventure Center. On Saturday, at 11 a.m.

Why Go: This is the perfect outdoor activity for the family to burn some of those added Thanksgiving calories.

Pricing: Free

 

Wreath-Making Workshops

Where/When: Queens County Farm Museum. On Saturday or Sunday, at 10 a.m., noon, and 2 p.m.

Why Go: This arts and crafts event will have the family leaving with a wreath to hang on the door. Don't forget your shears!

Pricing: $20 per person, per wreath.

 

Birding: Winter Waterfowl 

Where/When: . On Sunday, at 11 a.m.

Why Go: This event will have the kids paying close attention to the birds that inhabit Fort Totten Park. Urban Park Rangers will not only be your guides, but will help you identify all of your finds.

Pricing: Free

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
