1. Open Level Ballroom Class

Where/When: Arthur Murray Dance Studio. On Thursday at 9 p.m.

Why Go: See if you've got what it takes during this dance lesson. After the session, put your moves to the test during the Open Ballroom Dance Practice Party, which begins at 9:45 p.m.

Pricing: $25 introductory charge

2. Meet Fairway's Food Rock Stars

Where/When: Fairway Market. On Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go: The four planned demonstrations - featuring cheese, coffee, seafood and baked goods - will include experts' tips as well as free samples.

3. 2012 ROCKFREE Circuit 5 Band Showcase

Where/When: The Attic Bar & Lounge. On Saturday from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Why Go: Live rock bands will perform for your vote and a chance at the $1,000 cash prize.

Pricing: Free to enter. Drink prices vary. Specials apply.

4. Basic Yoga

Where/When: Vitality Yoga & Tai Chi. On Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Why Go: This is a great way to continue, or restart, that New Year's resolution you made more than a month ago!

Pricing: $20 for one class. Package rates are available

5. Las Vegas Tribute to Motown

Where/When: Queensborough Community College. On Saturday at 8 p.m.

Why Go: This live musical performance will feature hits of The Temptations, The Four Tops and, of course, The Supremes.

Pricing: $35

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
