Fairway Market to Open on Nov. 16, Weprin Says

Upscale grocery prepares to debut store in Douglaston Shopping Plaza.

Fairway Market is expected to open its doors at the Douglaston Shopping Plaza in mid-November.

The upscale grocery chain had , but it will now debut its northeast Queens store on Nov. 16, Councilman Mark Weprin, D-Oakland Gardens, said.

Fairway is expected to hold a ribbon cutting ceremony earlier in the month, Community Board 11 Jerry Iannece said.

The 56,000-square-foot store will prepare its own food, roast its own coffee, bake its own bread and stock a large inventory of cheeses.

It will also include a café, flower and plant department and catering services.

Fairway’s CEO, Howard Glickberg, said the store intends to hire a total 400 local residents.

“The community has been waiting a long time for Fairway to open and I know it will be a hit,” Weprin said. “November 16 will be a good day in Douglaston.”
