Douglaston Little Neck Library Unveils Roster of May Programs

Special events will include workshops for job seekers and a Broadway music concert.

The ’s May programs include English conversation classes and a Mother’s Day crafting event, but also several classes for job seekers and an evening of Broadway music.

Every Monday this month, the library will offer computer basics classes at 10 a.m., English conversation classes at 1 p.m. and knitting and crocheting club at 4 p.m.

On Wednesdays, the library will host Anna’s Book Discussion at 11:15 a.m. and Twilight Tales at 6:30 p.m. Both events will include children’s stories, songs, finger plays and other activities.

Children can dress in slippers and pajamas for the events as well as bring a favorite stuffed animal.

AARP driver safety courses will be offered at 10:30 a.m. every Friday next month.

And, on May 11, the library will host a Mother’s Day story and craft event at 10:45 a.m. The program will include listening to stories, singing songs and making gifts for mothers and grandmothers.

The event is for children, ages 2 to 5, and their caregivers.

The library is also holding several special programs in May.

On May 16, attendees will be able to listen to vocalist Tom Smith’s retrospective of composers, theatrical icons and nightclub performers who played a large role in the 20th century’s music scene in “Broadway and Nightclub Songs of New York.”

The concert will be held at 11 a.m.

A resume writing workshop will be held at 6:30 p.m. on May 21. Attendees will learn tips for crafting resumes, do’s and don’ts, common mistakes to avoid and how to write follow-up letters.

On May 23, the library will host a caregivers workshop at 11 a.m. The class will focus on the emotional dynamics of aging, preventing caregiver burnout and locating community resources.

And, on May 21, an interview preparation workshop will take place at 6:30 p.m. Attendees will be able to learn strategies on how to make a good first impression and dress for success.
