Douglaston Green Market to Host Cooking Demonstration, Visit from Honey Producer

Il Toscano's chef will drop by on Oct. 7, while a local beekeeper will bring a hive the following weekend.

Douglaston’s green market will host a cooking demonstration from a local chef and a visit from a honey producer in upcoming weeks.

On Oct. 7, Il Toscano Restaurant’s Alex Privilegi will hold a cooking demonstration on how to whip up autumn-inspired soup and sautéed vegetables. The event will begin at 11 a.m.

Joel Klose, of Nature’s Way Farm, will bring an observation beehive to the market on Oct. 14 to allow visitors to watch the bees at work. The event will also include some bee and honey-themed family activities as well as honey health information.

On Oct. 21, the market will host Harvest Portraits, during which families can have their picture snapped amid the community’s scenic autumn setting.

This weekend’s selections at the market will include Brussels sprouts, butternut squash, clover honey, celeriac, apples, cider and cider donuts.

The Douglaston Greenmarket is located in the traffic circle of the community’s Long Island Rail Road station. It is open every Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Nov. 18.
