A community celebration set for Aug. 18 that was to be hosted by and the has been cancelled.
was scheduled to take place next week in front of Strawberry's along 235th Street near the community's .
But both a manager for Strawberry's and the chamber of commerce have confirmed that the event has been cancelled.
The chamber's website notes that the event was nixed due to "scheduling issues," but suggests that it will be held again next year.
The manager at Strawberry's said the community day would not be held because the restaurant is in the middle of a "transitional" phase. He could not say whether the event would take place in 2013.
The chamber of commerce could not be reached for comment.
Last year's community day featured food, batting cages, a dunk tank, mini hoops, a bounce house and a live D.J. Proceeds from that event went toward the Darryl Strawberry Foundation and local charitable organizations.
