APEC to Teach Grade School Students About Butterflies

Event on June 8 will include a nature hike, a snack and crafts.

Douglaston’s Alley Pond Environmental Center will host an upcoming class to teach grade schoolers about butterflies.  

The environmental center, which is located at 228-06 Northern Blvd., will host the program from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. on June 8.  
The course is aimed at children between the ages of 6 and 10 years. The attendance fee is $21 per child.    

During the class, one of APEC’s instructors will lead participants through various butterfly stations.  

And children will be able to make their own butterfly-shaped sandwich, tattoos and crafts. The event will also include a photo booth and storytelling.  

There will also be a nature hike during which attendees will search for butterflies and caterpillars.  

At the end of the class, children will adopt their own butterfly larva that they can care for and release. Attendees are encouraged to dress up as a butterfly or caterpillar.
