APEC to Celebrate World Environment Day on June 2

will celebrate World Environment Day on June 2 with workshops on biodiversity, a presentation on solar panels and snacks from Douglaston’s greenmarket.
The center, which is located at 228-06 Northern Blvd. in Douglaston, will host the free event “Biodiversity: Connecting with Nature Open House” from 10 a.m. to noon.
Karen Pierro, an APEC educator, said the event will include composting, free recycled arts and crafts for children, an electronic recycling program and samples from several of the Douglaston Greenmarket’s vendors.

“This is a day when everybody can think globally, but act locally,” said Aline Euler, the center’s education director.
World Environment Day is celebrated worldwide. APEC’s event is being co-sponsored with the United Nations’ environmental program.

A Bayside-based solar powered company will speak to attendees about cost savings from placing solar panels on their homes.
“It helps to create a greener economy and it doesn’t pollute,” Euler said about solar panels.
