APEC Signing Up Local Youths for Halloween Events

Environmental center will host a haunted trail and another event for smaller children in late October.

is now registering northeast Queens children for two Halloween events it will host in late October.

The Haunted Halloween Hike will be held on Oct. 29. The first tour, which is aimed at children between the ages of 5 and 7 years, will run from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The second tour, which is for children between the ages of 8 and 12, will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The hike is $7 for members and $13 for non-members. Attendees should bring a flashlight. Pre-registration is required for this event.

Attendees will take a walk along a spooky trail, tell ghost stories, wear Halloween costumes and drink hot chocolate.

APEC's Teeny Tiny Trick or Treaters will take place on Oct. 31 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The event, which is intended for children between the age of 18 months and 4 years, includes making "not-so-scary" crafts, Halloween games and snacks.

The event is $10 for members and $16 for non-members. Pre-registration is required.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
