APEC's March Visitors Include Birds of Prey and an Arctic Wolf

Environmental Center to host workshops on predators as well as four Earth Day events this spring.

Northeast Queens residents will be able to get up close and personal with predators next month at .

On March 24, the Douglaston center will be paid a visit by Arctic gray wolf Atka.

South Salem’s The Wolf Conservation Center will bring the Canis lupus arctos to Alley Pond for a discussion on the animal’s history and difficult life.

The event, which will begin at 3 p.m., is $10 per person. Attendees must be at least 7 years old.

On March 25, the center will host Talons!, an education program on hawks, falcons and owls that will include a flight demonstration.

It will also include a lecture on the birds’ flying styles, choices of prey and environment.

Attendees will also learn about the current conversation methods being taken across the globe to protect raptors.

Talons!, which will begin at 2 p.m., is $10 per person.

The environmental center is offering a class on honey and bees on March 25 at 11 a.m.

Visitors will be able to sample honey as well as learn about the cycle of the honey bee.

Non-members will pay $8, while APEC members will be charged $5 for admission. The program is aimed at ages 12 and above.

The center is also on March 24.

In April, the center will hold four Earth Day celebrations, including a reception from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on April 21 and a concert featuring John Flynn.

The performance, which will begin at 8 p.m., is $25 per person.

On April 22, APEC will offer a live animal program that includes a giant snake, lemurs and a wallaby. The event, which will begin at 1 p.m., is $15 per person.

The center will host an Earth Day walk at 10 a.m. on April 22 to raise money for its programs.
