Alley Pond Environmental Center Announces Winter Programs for Toddlers

Douglaston center will offer three new classes that will allow youngsters to interact with animals, take nature walks and make crafts.

is offering three new nature programs this winter for children, ages 4 and below.

Toddler Time: Nature Programs, which is aimed at infants between the ages of 24 and 35 months, will run from January through March.

On Mondays, it will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and, on Wednesdays, it will operate from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The class will be offered at 11:00 a.m. on Thursdays and Fridays.

Toddler Time will enable youngsters to explore Alley Pond’s natural settings. The class will include nature crafts, reading stories, short walks and interacting with the center’s animals. A snack is included.

Sunny Bunnies is the center’s nature education program for children, ages 3 and 4.

The class will be held in Monday-Wednesday-Friday as well as Tuesday-Thursday sections from January through March. It will run from 9:45 a.m. to noon.

Children will be able to pet the center’s animals, explore nature trails, listen to discussions on nature topics, create crafts and listen to music.

A snack will be included, but attendees are asked to bring a bag lunch.

Fledglings, which is also intended for 3- and 4-year-olds, will be held on Mondays from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., Tuesdays from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and Thursdays from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Parents will pay $228 per child for a total 12 sessions. The focus of this program will be examining Alley Pond’s natural habitat as it changes from winter to spring.

The class will include discussions, nature hikes, crafts and interaction with animals.
