Airplane Noise Meeting to Be Held May 2 at Bayside High School

Residents will have an opportunity to learn about updates involving the ongoing airplane noise over northeast Queens.

Northeast Queens residents will have another chance to voice their frustration about airplane noise over Bayside and Douglaston during a meeting next week at Bayside High School.

The meeting will be held on May 2 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the school’s auditorium, which is located at 33-24 Corporal Kennedy St.

During the meeting, residents will be able to listen to presentations about the roles of the Federal Aviation Administration, the Port Authority, the Northeast Airspace Redesign, NextGen program and environmental protection laws.   Attendees will also be able to discuss steps that will be taken going forward to combat the airplane noise over northeast Queens.

In mid-March, state Sen. Tony Avella, D-Bayside, and state Assemblyman Edward Braunstein, D-Bayside, hosted a meeting during which residents were able to question the FAA.

The community has been complaining about noise resulting from planes consistently flying low over northeast Queens since last summer.

The FAA told residents during last month’s meeting that it had implemented a new flight pattern out of LaGuardia Airport’s Runway 13.

The agency also agreed to setting up a roundtable that would give local residents an opportunity to voice their concerns.
