Stand Up for Queens Library

Your community Queens Library is in grave danger. Find out how you can help.

The city's Executive Budget proposes a $25.3 million cut to the Queens Library. It would mean:

  • Layoff of 471 staff who provide critical information services to the community
  • 48 libraries would be closed 4 or 5 days per week
  • Only 13 libraries would be open 5 days per week, Monday through Friday
  • Central Library would be the only library open on Saturdays
  • No Sunday library service in Queens at all
  • People in Queens would have HALF the access to borrow materials, use computers, attend programs, get homework help, ask for job information and so many other important library services.

This is the fourth consecutive year that Queens Library’s operating budget has declined, causing fewer library hours, less service and fewer books and videos on the shelves for customer use.

Everyone's voice is needed to restore library funding. Go to www.savequeenslibrary.org. Sign the electronic petition. Sign petitions available in your library. Write postcards to your elected officials. Your support is critical in keeping your library's doors open.
