Weprin Hosts Toy Drive for Children with Autism

Assemblyman and Santa Claus deliver toys at Queens Village center.

State Assemblyman David Weprin, D-Little Neck, hosted a holiday party and toy drive distribution event last week to aid autistic children from the Lifeline Center for Child Development in Queens Village.

The event, which was held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 19, brought in toys for children at the center, which treats emotionally handicapped children with disabilities, such as Asperger's Syndrome, psychiatric disorders, Attention Development Disorder, hyperactivity, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Severe Adjustment Disorder, mood disorders and Pervasive Developmental Disorder.

Weprin's drive collected more than 200 toys for the children.

"Every toy brings a smile to a child with autism," said Weprin, who added that the drive "provide(s) over 200 educational toys for the autistic and underprivileged children in Queens."
