Braunstein Awards Four Local Students in Mother's Day Contest

Bayside student among winners in essay and poetry contest.

State Assemblyman Edward Braunstein announced the winners of his annual Mother's Dat essay and poetry contest. One of this year's winners attends school in Bayside.

Jada Caraballo, a student at Bayside's P.S. 31, won the fifth grade prize.

Other winners included St. Mel's student Allison Petrenas (second grade), P.S. 209's Samantha Fordell (third grade) and P.S. 79's Rena Chang (fourth grade).

"I was extremely impressed with their creative and heartfelt entries," Braunstein said of the contest's winners.

The subject for this year's entries was "Why My Mother is so Special to Me."
