Bayside BID to Hold Small Business Saturday Event, Holiday Lighting

Group's holiday event will include a Christmas tree, nativity scene and Menorah lighting.

The Bayside Village Business Improvement District will hold an upcoming Small Business Saturday sale and its annual holiday lighting in the next two weeks.

On Nov. 30, the BID’s Small Business Saturday will run all day at a number of stores along Bell Boulevard.

Small Business Saturday was founded by American Express in 2010 as a way for shoppers to patronize smaller stores as opposed to Black Friday, when millions across the nation flock to big box retail stores. It is celebrated on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Lyle Sclair, executive director of the BID, said Karma Boutique would be holding a party during the sale and that Bell Bay Florist was also participating in the event. Information on whether businesses along the commercial strip would take part in Small Business Saturday was unavailable at this time.

And, on Dec. 2, the BID will hold its annual Christmas tree, Chanukah Menorah and nativity scene holiday lighting ceremony.

"The businesses in Bayside have been doing the holiday lighting for as long as anyone can remember," said Sclair, who added that the BID became involved in the event in recent years.

The event, which begins at 6 p.m., will be held next to Bayside’s Long Island Rail Road station.

During the event, local clergy, elected officials and residents will sing along with choirs to kick off the holiday season.
