Northeast Queens Sites Offer Outdoor Activities for April

Spring has arrived early this year and northeast Queens’ parks as well as a local farm and environmental center are capitalizing on the warm weather.

is between 10 a.m. and noon on April 1. Those interested in planting a tree on their property must register on-line.

On April 7, city parks will open their ball fields, tennis courts and kayaking and canoeing launches at a number of sites across the five boroughs, including Fort Totten and the Bayside Marina.

That same day, the Queens County Farm Museum is hosting its annual Easter egg hunt from noon to 4 p.m. The event, which is $5 for admission, will include egg hunts, egg tossing and rolling games and meeting farm animals.

On April 14, 15 and 21, the farm is holding a children’s carnival in its apple orchard from 11 a.m. to 6 a.m.

It will include carnival rides, hayrides and entertainment. The cost of admission is $10.

Singer John Flynn will perform “Folk Music for the Earth” at 8 p.m. on April 21 at Alley Pond Environmental Center. Tickets for the concert are $25.

The following day, the center is hosting a walk along Little Neck Bay to raise funds for its programs. There will be a live animal program at 1 p.m.

The fee for the event is $15.

On April 22, the Bayside Anglers are sponsoring a clean-up that will begin at 9 a.m. along the Little Neck Bay Shoreline.

Sign in will be held at Joe Michael’s Mile along the Cross Island Parkway at Northern Boulevard, Bayside Marina and Little Bay Park.

Those interested in attending should bring basic tools and gloves as well as wear boots or footwear with good traction.

And, on April 28, the Million Trees NYC initiative will plant new trees at Crocheron Park.
