APEC Has a Full Earth Day Weekend

Douglaston environmental center is hosting a concert, a walk-a-thon and a live animal program on April 21 and 22.

is hosting a bevy of events, including a concert and a walk-a-thon, to celebrate Earth Day weekend on April 21 and 22.

Folk singer John Flynn will perform story songs, country music, children’s tunes and social justice songs during a concert at 8 p.m. on April 21.

Tickets for the show are $25.

That evening, the center will hold its Friend of the Environment Fundraising Reception.

The award will be presented at 6 p.m. to Central Veterinary Associates, which has provided more than 15 years of pro-bono care to APEC’s animals.

Pre-registration is required and tickets cost $25.

“We are very proud to be associated with Alley Pond Environmental Center and the work they do in raising environmental awareness,” said Steven Fox, the president and chief executive officer of Central Veterinary Associates.

On April 22, APEC will host a walk-a-thon to raise funds for its weekly programs as well as the animals that inhabit the Douglaston environmental center.

Registration for the event will begin at 9 a.m. and the walk will commence at 10 a.m.

Stretches and warm-ups will kick off at 9:45 a.m. and will be led by a trainer from Bell Plaza Sports.

The walk, which is meant for all ages, will cost $10 per participant, but children under age 6 can take part for free.

At 2 p.m., APEC will hold its Earth Day live animal program, during which children can meet a wallaby, lemur and giant snake as well as hear stories about the center’s critters.

The program, which will begin at 1 p.m., will cost $15 per person. Families of three will pay $40, while the entry fee for families of four is $50.
