Northeast Queens To Go Green with Four Upcoming Events

Northeast Queens residents will have ample opportunity to help clean up their community in upcoming weeks during four events taking place between March 30 and April 27.

On March 30, the city’s Department of Sanitation will host SAFE disposal events across the five boroughs during which residents can dispose of harmful household products.

In Queens, the event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Citi Field parking lots E and F at the corner of Roosevelt Avenue and Shea Road. For more information, call 311 or visit the SAFE disposal website.

The Knights of Columbus of the American Martyrs Church and the NYC Partnership for Parks will hold the Greenway Clean-way Day on the Vanderbilt Motor Parkway on April 13 at 9 a.m.

Gloves and garbage bags will be provided for all attendees. Meeting locations for the event include the dead end at 209th Street in Bayside, the Bell Boulevard overpass, the Springfield Boulevard overpass, 220th Street between Kingsbury Avenue and 77th Avenue, and Kingsbury Avenue at the Grand Central Parkway service road.

The Bayside Anglers will sponsor its 19th annual Little Neck Bay shoreline cleanup on April 14 from 9 a.m. to noon.

During the event, volunteers will clean a three-mile stretch of the shoreline. Those interested in attending should RSVP by April 1 by emailing president@baysideanglers.com.

Refreshments will be provided, but volunteers should bring basic tools and work gloves as well as wear boots or footwear providing good traction.

On April 27, volunteers will plant trees in Alley Pond Park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. as part of the city’s Million Trees NYC initiative.

The entrance for the event is the south side of Northern Boulevard at 234th Street between Bay Chevrolet and Auto Gallery.
