Oratorio Society of Queens Annual Holiday Concert featuring "Messiah"

The Oratorio Society of Queens performs portions of Handel's

“Messiah,” as well as traditional Christmas favorites and Chanukah songs on Sunday, December 22 at 4:00 pm in the

Queensborough Performing Arts Center (QPAC), Bayside, New York. This Queens’ institution will perform with its 125-plus member chorus under the direction of Maestro David Close with featured soloists Geraldine McMillian, soprano, John Easterlin, tenor, Vaughn Fritts, bass-baritone, Guest Artist Cantor Jerry Korobow and with OSQ’s orchestra, the Orchestra Arts Ensemble of Queens.

Holiday highlights include "Light One Candle" made famous by Peter, Paul and Mary in a rousing arrangement by Robert DeCormier, plus "Ocho Kandelikas" a Ladino favorite celebrating the eight candles of Chanukah and its story of hope and redemption, and a brand new song by noted Long Island composer Linda Tsuruoka, "The lamp kept burnin' on." Cantor Jerry Korobow leads us in song with his guitar and the entire chorus and orchestra.

Sing along with traditional carols “O Come, All Ye Faithful,” and the "The Twelve Days of Christmas" in Oscar award-winning Carmen Dragon's brilliant arrangement! Thrill to “O Holy Night,” and Bruce Saylor's soaring "Jubilate," a work specially composed for Jessye Norman, chorus and orchestra for her Christmas concert at Notre Dame in Paris.
