Whiz Kids: The DAC Mets

Local little leaguers take third place in the DePhillips Athletic Club's spring season 2011.

Know a great kid who made Eagle Scout or did your local soccer team take the championship? They may be our next Patch Whiz Kids honoree.

Each week, Little Neck Patch will seek suggestions from readers for individual kids, youth groups, teens, and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments.

We want to hear about these amazing children and teens, and select one each week as the Patch Whiz Kid. So submit your nomination in our comment box below or send an e-mail to laurene@patch.com. Be sure to include the answers bulleted below, and don't forget to include a photo.

Ages: 7 to 8

League: DePhillips Athletic Club

Accomplishments:

• Third Place this year in DAC's Texas (Instructional) League

Key To Awesomeness:

The 2011 DAC Mets started off the season with only five returning players and six newly drafted players. They were as "green" as you could be. But with practice after practice they started to gel, and ultimately finished the regular season with a 7-2 record—losing only to the two teams that would eventually go on to face each other in the championships.

During the team's playoff run, the DAC Mets also did extraordinarily well, eliminating two teams until they were eliminated by the team that would become DAC Instructional League champions.

Ultimately, the team would finish off the season with a winning record of 10 wins and 5 losses, and while not taking home the championship trophy was a huge disappointment for the kids, they played hard all season and showed true sportsmanship.

The sky's the limit for these Little Neck Sluggers!
