Councilman Mark S. Weprin, D-Oakland Gardens, was instrumental in restoring $1.25 million to fund programs for children with Autism. The Samuel Field Y has various activities dedicated toward kids on the spectrum, and employees there were delighted to hear that funding would remain intact.

Then again, if you're looking for a restroom in Little Bay Park, you may have to hold it for a long time. The Dept. of Parks and Recreation expects to put the job of construction of the bathrooms—and the rest —out for bid by the end of this summer, but the federal and city government allocated the money in 2004 and 2005.

Assemblyman David Weprin has been chosen by the Queens County Democrats to run for the Ninth Congressional District seat this September. The seat was left vacant by former Rep. Anthony Weiner, who stepped down last month after he admitted to sending lewd photos of himself over the social-networking site, Twitter.

Despite the area's relative wealth, many residents of northeast Queens continue to grapple with long-term unemployment.
