Week In Review: Dist. 26 Schools, Cell Phones on the Subway and Arson at Alley Pond Park

A look back at the notable events from the past week.

On Monday, we learned that District 26 schools are some of the best in the city, according to grades given by the Department of Education. See how Little Neck schools fared . 

Assemblyman Edward Braunstein, D-Bayside, is sponsoring a for local second through fifth grade students. The deadline for submissions is Nov. 1, so anyone interested should get crackin'. 

Wednesday marked the first day that cell phone service and WiFi became  available in six Manhattan subway stations, though the MTA plans to expand the program out to other stations in the coming years. We want to know:

On Thursday morning, the Mobil gas station on Northern Boulevard in Douglaston . The suspect grabbed around $900 before fleeing the scene on foot. 

After only two days in effect, Gov. Andrew Cuomo that would allow drivers to renew their licenses without taking a vision test. Cuomo's office told the AP that New York drivers would continue to be required to take the test until "physicians can be consulted."
