It was a busy week for news in Bayside, Douglaston and Little Neck.

Residents of Bayside Manor Apartments alleged that the management frequently leaves doors open at two of the complex’s buildings, allowing for a homeless man and local teens to gain access.

Community Board 11 discussed airplane noise and passed variances for two gas stations and an animal hospital during its monthly meeting.

And Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott ranked District 26 as the best in the city in his annual report card.

Monday

Mayor Michael Bloomberg endorsed state Assemblywoman Grace Meng, D-Flushing, in the Sixth Congressional District race. Reviews in This Week at the Movies included “Looper” and “Pitch Perfect.”

Tuesday

During its monthly meeting, CB 11 voted in favor of variances for two gas stations and an animal hospital as well as talked about airplane noise over Bayside resulting from a new LaGuardia Airport flight pattern.

And Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott’s annual report card for city schools ranked District 26 as the best in the city. State Sen. Tony Avella, D-Bayside, said he would focus on his reelection campaign and called a bid for borough president a “rumor.”

Wednesday

Residents of Bayside Manor Apartments and state Assemblyman Edward Braunstein, D-Bayside, accused the complex’s management company of leaving doors unlocked at two of its buildings. And find out which northeast Queens eateries are taking part in this year’s Queens Restaurant Week.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
