It was a sweltering week in Douglaston and a strong one for local feature stories.

Former Mets Darryl Strawberry and Jesse Orosco dropped by Douglaston to greet fans, while a neighborhood resident was nearly fined up to thousands of dollars for beehive on his property.

Giftalicious, a new bakery and gift shop, opened up along 235th Street and a bill proposed by state Assemblyman Edward Braunstein, D-Bayside, to ban "fake bath salts" was signed into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Monday

Darryl Strawberry and Jesse Orosco, both of whom played for the 1986 World Champion Mets, dropped by Strawberry's Bar and Grill to meet and greet fans.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed off on a bill proposed by State Assemblyman Edward Braunstein to ban "fake bath salts."

Tuesday

The city dropped a violation for a Douglaston resident, who could have been fined up to $2,000 for not providing water for a beehive on his property. But Tip Sempliner said a waterer sat immediately next to the hive.
