It was a busy week for news in Douglaston.

On Monday, northeast Queens continued the cleanup following Hurricane Irene's visit and state Sen. Tony Avella, D-Bayside, unveiled the route for his upcoming motorcade to honor the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Monday

Councilman Dan Halloran, R-Whitestone, updated northeast Queens on cleanup efforts in his district in the wake of Hurricane Irene. He said Douglaston was hit the hardest in northeast Queens.

Tuesday

State Sen. Tony Avella criticizes the city for not having removed a number of large, old trees that were knocked down by Irene. Mayor Michael Bloomberg signs into law a bill proposed by Councilman Mark Weprin, D-Oakland Gardens, that would require employers to provide "reasonable accommodation" to workers for religious observation.
