Tolls And LIRR Fare To Increase, Again

Crossing a bridge or tunnel from Queens will cost $6.50 starting Dec. 30

Just before the ball drops, Long Island Railroad train fare and tolls for the city's bridges and tunnels will be rising.

Starting Dec. 30, borough crossings will increase a full dollar to $6.50 for non-E-ZPass drivers.

The Metropolitan Transit Authority is cutting E-ZPass users a break, upping their rate only 23 cents to $4.80.

"The difference between the cash and E-ZPass tolls encourages the use of E-ZPass, which is good for customers, good for the environment and helps keep traffic moving," the MTA said.

The MTA Board voted to increase bus, subway, and LIRR fare in October, in an effort to alleviate a $1 billion deficit for 2011.

A one-way peak ticket from Bayside to Penn Station will now set riders back $8.75.
