Time Warner Cable Accepting Holiday Donations

The month-long "Holiday Hopes & Happenings" food drive is aimed at keeping New Yorkers fed this winter, especially in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

Time Warner Cable, partnered with NY1, is launching a month-long “Holiday Hopes & Happenings” food drive as an effort to help New York City-area families in need this winter.

Non-perishable goods will be collected to benefit the Food Bank For New York City and City Harvest.

“Our holiday campaign couldn’t come at a more critical time when many families are in need, given the devastation that Hurricane Sandy left behind,” John Quigley, Time Warner Cable’s Regional Vice President of Operations for NYC, said in a statement. “Thanks to the joint efforts of our employees, customers, clients and the public, this food drive will help make the holidays a little brighter for children and families across the NYC area.”

Those who wish to help can drop off goods at the following locations:

Queens: The Time Warner Cable store located inside the Queens Center Mall (90-15 Queens Blvd) and Hillside Honda at 139-07 Hillside Avenue in Jamaica.

Staten Island: The Time Warner Cable store located at 2845 Richmond Avenue.

Manhattan: At both Time Warner Cable stores in Manhattan, located at 46A East 23rd Street (between Park Avenue South & Broadway) and 2554 Broadway (at 96th Street), and Big Apple Circus at Lincoln Center, Damrosch Park at 62nd Street and Amsterdam Avenue.

For more about the program, visit www.ny1.com/holidays. Donations will be accepted through December 22.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
