Welcome to This Week in Little Neck, Patch’s new one-stop post for all of the events, meetings, top stories and other important information you need to know about for the upcoming week.

Meetings

Community Board 11 will at Bayside’s M.S. 158, located at 46-35 Oceania St.

The board will discuss Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s preliminary Fiscal Year 2013 budget as well as eliminating a portion of Thebes Avenue. The group will also hold its annual election for its chairman and other top positions.

On Thursday, state Sen. Tony Avella, D-Bayside, will at the Douglaston Civic Association’s meeting, which will be held at 8 p.m. at the Community Church of Douglaston, located at 39-50 Douglaston Parkway.

The Douglaston and Little Neck Patch sites will soon be merging into one site. Check back with us for more details to come.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
