Summer Youth Employment (SYEP) Financial Literacy Workshop Volunteer Opportunity
Each year PAL provides 1,500 young people with employment opportunities through a partnership with the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD). In addition to providing an employment opportunity, PAL provides job readiness training. Financial education is a key component to success. 100 volunteers are needed to facilitate financial education workshops for young people ages 14-24 years old. Summer Camps/Opportunities for Youth, Teens & Young Adults:

School Safety Division Law Enforcement Explorers - Post #2241
Youth ages 12 to 20 who are interested in community service, knowledge of the law, scholarships, fund raisers, leadership training, competition, as well as trips and parties, should join the School Safety Division Law Enforcement Explorers. The SSDLE Explorers meet every Wednesday from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. For additional information, contact Advisor T. Nemley at (718) 949-6096.

JCAL Summer Semester and Saturday Workshops
Tap, cartooning, guitar and martial arts are just a few of the many workshops that the Jamaica Center for Arts and Learn offers children on Saturdays and during the week. Workshops run for 6 weeks during the summer session, from July 14th through August 18th. Registration opens June 2nd and closes July 21st. 2012 Summer Youth Police Academy
The Youth Services Section will be accepting applications for the 2012 Summer Youth Police Academy through June 22, 2012. For over 15 years, the Summer Youth Academy has provided our youth with a unique opportunity to interact with law enforcement professionals. The program is for city youths between the ages of 10 and 16 and is held in seven Academies throughout the City. The program takes place five days a week for six weeks during the summer, culminating in a graduation ceremony at One Police Plaza featuring Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly. Police Officers conduct life skills and law enforcement classes consisting of lectures, role-plays and demonstrations. Participants engage in military drills, similar to what recruits at the Police Academy experience, and take field trips to police facilities. Roy Wilkins Park Summer Camp
Summer Camp is 7 weeks at Roy Wilkins Park. Camp begins on July 9th and concludes on August 24th. The daily time for camp is 7:00 am -7:00 pm. In order for a child to be enrolled in camp they must be ages 6-14 (A child 5 years of age may enroll only if a sibling 6-14 years of age is also being enrolled). Camp tuition is $725.00. A non-refundable registration fee of $125.00 is required and must be delivered in person to our office. Money orders only. The deposit will be deducted from the camp fee. New York State Summer School of the Arts (Some Late Applications Being Accepted)
The summer of 2012 will mark the 43rd year of operation for the schools that form the New York State Summer School of the Arts. This program, with its eight component summer residential Schools is sponsored and supported by the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and is administered by the State Education Department. Recognized as one of the finest programs of its kind in the nation, over 15,000 high school age students have become part of this unique summer experience. Alumni surveys attest to the success of the schools in helping high school students with special talents identify and pursue career choices in all fields of the fine arts and performing arts at an early age. JSPOA Gerontology Scholarship Award Opportunity
The Jamaica Service Program for Older Adults is pleased to announce the Barbara Decosta Waldon scholarship award for graduate studies in Gerontology. The applicant must be a Queens resident accepted to an accredited graduate program with a concentration in gerontology. Jamaica Service Program for Older Adults (JSPOA) is a community based agency that has been serving older adults in Queens since 1972 with coordination and direct services. Among the services we provide are the sponsorship of three senior centers, transportation, respite, social services, crime victim assistance, social services, and many others. The scholarship award is named in honor of Barbara D. Waldon, a long time supporter, volunteer and board member here at JSPOA. The winner of the competition will be awarded $3,000 to be used in furtherance of his/her education. The deadline to apply is September 15, 2012. CUNY Fatherhood Academy
Are you a father between the ages of 18 and 24? Do you want to move forward in your life? Are you unemployed or underplayed? The CUNY Fatherhood Academy is recruiting now! The CUNY Fatherhood Academy is a free 5-month, 3 day a week program that can help you: earn a GED while focusing on academic and personal success; prepare for college; get work experience through a part-time job or an internship; explore careers; learn about important topics such as parenthood, health and financial literacy. NY Youth Works Program
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo signed the NY Youth Works Program into law on December 9, 2011 to encourage businesses to hire unemployed, disadvantaged youth. The program will support job training and employment for eligible youth ages 16 to 24 who live, among other places, in New York City. The NY Youth Works Program has three elements:
For Businesses – Your business can earn tax credits of up to $4,000 for eligible youth starting work between January 1, 2012 and July 1, 2012. Your business must be certified to participate in the program.
For Youth – This program can help you get a job! Plus, you may earn up to $900 to cover your expenses if you get training from an authorized NY Youth Works provider. Getting certified for the program is a snap; see below for details
For Placement/Training Providers - the NYS Department of Labor has made $8 million dollars available through three (3) solicitations to facilitate the employment of work-ready youth in the 12 targeted New York Youth Work areas.
Entities are eligible to apply for all three solicitations (total funding up to $300,000). However, the Department encourages organizations to first apply to the opportunity which it can most readily implement. Part Time Jamaica Service Program For Older Adults Project Leader    
 The Jamaica Service Program for Older Adults has a part-time (5 hours per week) job available. Some weekend work is required. Responsibilities include assessing senior homeowners maintenance needs. Responsibilities also include supervising teenagers providing the maintenance services. Must have a high school diploma, a valid NY State driver’s license, and a car. Con Edison 2012 Summer Hire Program
Con Edison's Summer Intern Program provides college students with work experiences that help them connect textbook knowledge with real-world settings and gain an understanding of the way we work at Con Edison. With this program, Con Edison identifies students who demonstrate high energy, intellect, and a genuine thirst for learning and who, upon graduation from college, may qualify as candidates for the company's Growth Opportunities for Leadership Development (GOLD) Program. Applicants must be full-time students in a four-year college program (with at least upper sophomore status), have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or greater, and be involved in the study of engineering, environmental science, computer science and business-related disciplines, such as accounting or finance.
