September Events at Alley Pond Environmental Center

Alley Pond Environmental Center has a number of September events and classes with room still available. 

On Sept. 17, join astronomer Mark Freilich for a basic astronomy lesson focusing on Jupiter, Saturn, the Plietes and the Orion Nebula. The evening will consist of an indoor lecture, followed by a chance to apply newfound knowledge with telescopes. The program lasts from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. and costs $10 for adult members, $12 for adult non-member, and $7 for children ages 7-12. 

On Sept. 24, APEC will honor Little Neck Bay as part of the National Estuaries Day Festival. Enjoy a day of hiking, learning, live music-listening, canoeing and all manner of fun and crafts. The free event will take place from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Tired of slaving over the stove while your kids sit and watch? Sign them up for Young Chefs on Sept. 17, where they will learn to make apple crepes, in addition to other apple-centric treats. The class will be held from 10:30 a.m. until 12 p.m., and costs $18 for members and $23 for non-members. 

Finally, round out your child's artistic resume with a lesson in nature photography. This two day course will teach kids the basics of composition and nature photography on disposable cameras, which they can then put into practice in the environs of APEC. The class will be held on Sept. 11 and 18 from 10:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. The cost is $54 for members and $60 for non-members.
