Samuel Field Y Debuts Senior Lunch Program

Sam's Senior Cafe serves lunch on Monday through Friday.

Little Neck’s Samuel Field Y recently debuted a new city-sponsored lunch program for seniors, a spokeswoman for the center said.

The Y, located at 58-20 Little Neck Parkway, has been granted a lunch program contract by the city’s Department for the Aging.

Sam’s Senior Café, which is located in the Tel Aviv room on the Y’s first floor, is now offering a hot kosher meal for visitors, ages 60 and above, for a $2.50 suggested donation.

There will be a $4.75 suggested donation for patrons below the age of 60, said Heather Simon, the program’s coordinator.

Hot pre-made food at the café will include everything from turkey, sweet cabbage and salmon to orange chicken, potato Kugel and chicken Lo Mein.

The menu varies from day to day, Simon said.

“We had every other service here except for a lunch service program, so we thought this would make life a little easier for visitors who are age 60 and over,” she said.

So far, the café has been drawing about 350 people per week, Simon said.

Lunch will be served between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Monday through Friday. Tickets for the meal will go on sale at 10 a.m. every day.
