Queens Farm to Host Wreath Making Workshops

Borough's oldest acting historic farm to offer up good old fashioned family fun this holiday season.

Floral Park's Queens County Farm will kick off the holiday season this weekend with a series of wreath making workshops.

An annual tradition among many local residents, the workshops offer attendees a fun, exciting way to share the holidays with the ones they love while also providing people with a new way to deck the halls.

"We keep our wreath-making classes small and intimate and provide fresh pine boughs brought in just for the workshops," said Kristin Allocco, of the Queens County Farm.

But Allocco said that attendees are also encouraged to bring items from home, such as ribbons, beads, and spray snow, to use for decorating the wreaths.

"Parents and children sometimes go to local parks to collect their own pine cones to decorate with," she said.

The day’s festivities will feature expert instruction by Doris Wilshere as well as classic carols playing in the background to help fill the room with a little extra holiday cheer as participants work at crafting their own masterpieces.

"First timers are usually a little nervous about making mistakes," Allocco said. "But Doris breaks down the steps and within minutes people are on their way to a finished product."

The wreath making classes will be held at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. on December 3 and 4.

Attendees are reminded to bring their own garden shears and gloves.

Those interested in attending the workshop can pre-register for the classes by calling 718-347-3276.
