Queens Exit to Be Closed in Bronx-Whitestone Bridge Upgrade

The 3rd Avenue exit will be closed on Jan. 7 to allow for ongoing reconstruction project.

An exit near the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge will be closed on Jan. 7 as part of an ongoing reconstruction project on the bridge, according to the Metropolitan Transit Authority.

The 3rd Avenue exit, which is the last in Queens before the bridge to the Bronx, will be closed to all traffic beginning on Monday.

To access the areas near 3rd Avenue from the Cross Island Parkway, vehicles must take the Utopia Parkway exit.

Drivers traveling on the Whitestone Expressway northbound should exit at 20th Avenue.

The reconstruction of the bridge, which began in 2011, will upgrade the structure’s support foundations and concrete piers.

The project will also require the closure of one Bronx-bound lane for a year, according to the MTA.
