Patch Pets: Natalie

Sweet, gentle kitten ready for adoption

This week’s Patch Pet is a 9-month-old domestic short hair kitty named Natalie who's fully 'vetted' and ready to come home.

And while the staff at Animals Can't Talk in northeast Queens are hopeful that Natalie's story will have a happy ending, it's the sad tale of how her life began that keeps these volunteers working tirelessly to save more kittens like her.

“She was found crying outside of an apartment building by two girls who picked her up and realized she was so loving that she didn't belong on the streets,” said Lisa, a volunteer at ACT. “So they brought her to us knowing that we’d care for her.”

The staff at ACT, a not-for-profit animal shelter and placement agency, immediately took Natalie in and saw she got the care she needed.

"The purpose of ACT is to respond to the needs of those abandoned, stray and lost animals which call the streets of NYC home," said Lisa, pointing out that her group accepts all cats.

Natalie is the last rescue of 2010 — and according to the staff at ACT, may be the best candidate for adoption of all the animals at the Bayside shelter.

"She's beautiful, sweet and gentle, with a coat so incredibly soft and plush you'll think you're petting a rabbit," Lisa said. "Plus, she's very affectionate, and craves attention – cries for it even."

Though Natalie is still a kitten, according to ACT staff, she's outgrown the shelter and is need of a permanent home.

“We have lots of rescued cats and kittens here that need loving homes,” Lisa said. “But this one especially deserves a special person to love her."
