Patch Asks: Has Your Commute Worsened? [Poll]

A TA study said 61 percent of straphangers have become more dissatisfied with their commutes. Have you?

According to a survey conducted by advocacy group Transportation Alternatives, 61 percent of subway and bus riders say their commute has grown steadily worse over the past three years.

Transportation Alternatives Director Paul Steely White attributes the growing number of straphanging malcontents to decreased transit funding and the slashed services that have come with it.

“This survey confirms what every bus and subway rider in this city knows,” he said in a statement. "From higher fares to longer wait times to overcrowded trains, transit riders have seen the quality of their commutes drop precipitously over the last three years.”

A total of $260 million in transit funding has been cut since 2009, culminating in removal of two subway lines, 36 bus routes and 570 bus stops. Among the bus routes eliminated was Little Neck's , which left 650 weekly commuters without viable public transportation.
