Each week, our Parents Council of experts takes your questions, gives advice and shares solutions.
Moms, dads, grandparents and the diverse families who make up our community will have a new resource for questions about local neighborhood schools, the best pediatricians, 24-hour pharmacies and the thousands of other issues that arise while raising children.
This week’s question is:
How important do you believe it is for children to get out of the city - even briefly - during the summer? If so, what are some ideas for parents who cannot afford family vacations this year?
Judy Vincent
I don't believe children have to leave the city to have a great summer. There are many beautiful parks and beaches that they could visit.
One interesting thing families living in the five boroughs can do is make it a point of visiting different parks. Grab a camera and help your child collect scrapbook pictures. Then, do the same with beaches. There are plenty around to check out.
Take it from one mom that knows - a beautiful summer with your children does not need to break the bank. Check out the Parks Department's website for free events in different parks all over the five boroughs.
