Parent Talk

This week, our council of neighborhood moms and dads talks about how to prepare for flu season.

Each week, our Parents Council of experts takes your questions, gives advice and shares solutions.

Moms, dads, grandparents and the diverse families who make up our community will have a new resource for questions about local neighborhood schools, the best pediatricians, 24-hour pharmacies and the thousands of other issues that arise while raising children.

This week’s question is:

It's flu/cold season and the weather is getting chillier as winter approaches. What are some tips to help your children avoid getting sick?

I'd simply recommend a lot of hand washing and Purell. For older children, it's importan to make sure they get adequate sleep, good food and the flu shot.

Schools tend to breed germs and although we can't eliminate them completely, we can just educate the children. I always volunteer to supply the classroom with extra hand sanitizer and soap, so that they don't run out.
