If you know a veteran looking for work, here's a list of resources, compiled by Baysider Matthew Silverstein.
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
As a Democratic state committeeman and someone who grew up in a military family, I am committed to being an advocate for veterans and military families. My grandfather served in the United States Navy during WWII.
My Great Uncle won the Purple Heart for his service in Vietnam and my brother in-law just returned home from a tour in Afghanistan. I have always felt a bond with people who have served our great nation.

This economy has been tough on all of us but even more so on Veterans and military families. Unemployment might be about 9 percent nationally but unemployment among our nation’s veterans is almost 12 percent. Unemployment among our nations youngers Veterans is at nearly 27 percent. I believe that after bravely serving our nation, Veterans and military families deserve more from us. The least we can do is ensure that every Veteran and every member of a military family can find a job.
As the Project Analyst for America Works of New York Inc., which is an employment company that helps find jobs for Veterans, I know just how complicated it can be for Veterans to find the resources they need to make the transition back into civilian life.

It is for these reasons that I have created the first edition of my NYC Veterans Job Seekers Handbook. It is my hope that Veterans and military families will use this guide, as they search for jobs and it will help to ease the process. I don’t think a guide of this kind has ever been produced.

Directions: By Ferry from NYC, cross Bay St and turn right; turn left at Schuler Street; at Stuyvesant Place, turn right; the Center is approximately ½ block on the left from that point. By bus, take the S40, S42, S44, S46, S48, S51, S52, S61, S62, S66, S74, S76, S78, S91, S92, S94, S98 to the Ferry terminal and follow walking directions from the Ferry, above.
By train, take the MTA Staten Island Railway (SIR), which runs between the St. George and Tottenville stations; at the St. George station (Ferry terminal) follow the walking directions from the Ferry, above. By car, from the Verrazano Bridge take the Bay Street exit; turn left onto Bay Street; turn right on Richmond Terrace; travel 3 blocks to Hamilton Avenue and turn right for 1 block; turn right on Stuyvesant Place, where metered parking is available and a Municipal Parking Lot is around the corner on Central Avenue.

The Center can also be reached by the B63 bus to 5th Ave. and 52nd St., one block north and one block west to library or the B11 bus to 52nd St. and 4th Ave., one block north to library. If you are coming to the Center by car, 4th Ave. is a six-lane thoroughfare, connecting Flatbush Ave. at the north end, and the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge at the south end.
