A local celebration crossing our own (local) border

Good morning, Little Neck! Today is Cinco de Mayo, the day Mexicans celebrate their victory over the armies of Napoleon III with music, food and dance.

For those gringos wanting to get in on the act with a traditional enchilada and perhaps an ice-cold Dos Equis, check out the festivities across the border in our own backyard at Pancho's in Great Neck Arriba!

1. President Barack Obama will lay a wreath at the Sept. 11 Memorial at Ground Zero in a ceremony to be attended by Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Congressman Gary Ackerman, D-Bayside, among others, this afternoon.

2. Average gas prices across the region inched ever closer to an all-time record set on July 16, 2008 of $4.411, according to this report.
