A period of reflection, sacrifice begins for residents of the Catholic faith

Good morning, Little Neck! Today is the day Catholics around the world celebrate Ash Wednesday, marking the first day of Lent that lasts until Easter Sunday on April 24. For some, it's the beginning of a period of reflection. For others, it's about sacrificing an indulgence or two.

So for our Catholic readers: What do you plan on giving up during this Lenten season? Is it meat? Sugary sweets? Let us know in the comments.

1. For residents accustomed to the sight of a  advertising the services of a Great Neck dentist at Little Neck Parkway and Brattle — welcome news. According to several sources, the sign came down earlier this week. For more on the story, check back with Little Neck Patch later today.

2. Alternate side parking rules are suspended because of the holiday. Meters still need to be paid, though.
