Live Music Series Rocks Bell

Circuit band showcase proves to be a fun night out for locals.

On Wednesday,  in Bayside hosted the eleventh performance in a series of Rock Free Open Mics that are part of the 2011 Circuit Band Showcase.

The event attracted live acts from all over the tri-state area and featured musical performances by Jeff Farrell, Dan & James, Track 7, Damsel and The Big Drops.

"These shows are really a great venue to play at for these new acts because we draw a warm crowd," said Stavros Theoharis, co-founder of Soundstatic Production, who organized Wednesday's showcase.

Though Marc Fox, the other half of Soundstatic Productions, also pointed out that Wednesday's show was about more than just exposure.

"One band tonight will get a slot to play in Rock Free Open Mic's King of Kings competition that's going to be held in December of this year, which is a battle of the band forum where one band will walk away with $1,000," he said.

Still for at least one performer who was there on Wednesday, just getting the chance to rock out in front of a live audience was enough for her.

"I love playing for people and these Rock Free shows are always a lot of fun," said Ionna of the Damsels, who plays bass and sings lead for the Whitestone based alt-rock band.

Indeed for the crowd who turned up at Johnny Famous, Wednesday night, it was all about having fun and listening to good music.

"You really can't beat the music. Stavros does a great job booking the bands, and we've seen some pretty good bands play so far this year," said Tom Grove, who hosts Rock Free Open Mic's Comedy Showcase.

"I'm looking forward to the next one," Grove said.
