Letter: Old Park Projects Must Be Completed Before New

I have no confidence in words, only actions.

Hello Neighbor,

Last month I attended a Community Board 7 Parks Committee meeting where the topic was a proposed (exact location to be be determined) within the next few years.

Other members of the Bay Terrace community were in attendance and it was the consensus of the members of the committee that this proposal would be a beneficial to our community, with the caveat that the following capital projects must be completed prior to the installation of the Eco Dock:

*The Little Bay Park Comfort Station (restrooms)*Little Bay Park parking lot expansion

These above two capital projects along with the reconstruction of the Cross Island Parkway overpass and realignment of the 212th Street and Bell Blvd intersection were approved and funded seven (7) years ago but have yet to see a shovel in the ground.

Community leaders have been "told" that the comfort station and parking lot expansion is a top priority item by the appropriate agencies, but by now, I have no confidence in words, only actions.

Attached is information on the proposed Eco Dock for your information.

Hi Phil - Well you may also recall that Helen Marshall and Mayor Bloomberg held a press conference on the lawn just inside the gate next to the then Parks Building in 2005 to announce an award of $550,000 to the Bayside Historical Society to install an elevator to the second floor to assist anyone not able to climb the stairs to events. This funding went right into the NYC Parks budget never to be seen again. Many architects visited to draw up plans which were never acted upon by Parks. So you might say they are the proverbial black hole of non profit funding.
