Last Chance: Sign Up Your Band for the Memorial Day Parade

The deadline is also coming up for speaking during CB 11's public participation portion of its June 4 meeting.

Time always seems to be running out, doesn't it? There's no need to worry. Just drop by Douglaston-Little Neck Patch on Tuesdays for weekly reminders of important looming dates and deadlines.

Here are some important ones to keep in mind this week:

Speak At Community Board 11's June 4 Meeting

CB 11 will meet at 7:30 p.m. on June 4 at Bayside's M.S. 158, located at 46-35 Oceania St. Those interested in speaking during the meeting's public participation portion should call District Manager Susan Seinfeld no later than June 1.

The board's number is 718-225-1054.

March in the Douglaston Little Neck Memorial Day Parade

The parade, which is the largest in the nation, kicks off at 2 p.m. on May 28. Those interested in registering their band or group to march should print out the form found under 'Register to March' in the bottom right-hand corner of the parade's website.

Then, fax your form to 718-631-1612.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
