Last Chance: Keep These Important Dates in Mind

Check out Patch's weekly reminder of deadlines in your community.

Time always seems to be running out, doesn't it? There's no need to worry. Just drop by Douglaston-Little Neck Patch on Tuesdays for weekly reminders of important looming dates and deadlines.

Here are some important ones to keep in mind this week:

Pre-K Enrollment

The application deadline for pre-kindergarten enrollment in city schools is April 5. Click here to visit the city's pre-K directory for parents.

Alley Pond Environmental Center Walk

Those interested in taking part in ’s April 22 fundraising walk-a-thon should call 718-229-4000 to register.

Proceeds from the event will go toward the environmental center’s programs and animals.

111th Precinct Community Council

The council will meet Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the precinct, which is located at 45-06 215th St. in Bayside.

Tax Deadline

Don't forget that the filing deadline for federal income tax returns is April 17.

New York State’s return date and extension due date are also April 17. The due date after the extension is Oct. 15.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
