June 28: Five Things You Need to Know Today

Bite-sized bits of info to get you through your Tuesday.

Gooood morning, Little Neck. Let's see. June 28. On this day in 1969, the Stonewall Riots began in New York City, marking the official beginning of the Gay Rights Movement. On this day in 1997, Mike Tyson was evicted from the boxing ring after biting off a piece of Evander Holyfield II's ear. And on this day in 2006, the Republic of Montenegro became the 192nd member of the United Nations.

What will today bring? Only one way to find out!

1. NYC.gov is prepared to help you handle the myriad disasters that could befall New Yorkers at any moment. Each of the site's 13 designated hazards is outfitted with a non-threatening icon, like serum viles for "Disease Outbreaks" and a snow-covered tree branch for "Winter Weather." We feel safer already.
